Harnessing CNNs for Enhanced Facial Detection in Real-Time Automated Surveillance Systems

  • Led design and implementation of an end-to-end surveillance pipeline to detect and identify faces from live CCTV/webcam feeds using Convolutional Neural Networks and classical image-processing techniques.
  • Implemented face detection using MTCNN for robust multi-scale detection and integrated Dlib for facial landmark alignment to improve recognition accuracy on unconstrained video frames.
  • Built feature extraction and embedding pipeline using pretrained VGG16 and FaceNet architectures in TensorFlow/Keras to generate compact face descriptors for database matching.
  • Developed real-time frame capture and preprocessing with OpenCV, including resizing, normalization, and augmentation to maintain performance on live video streams.
  • Evaluated model performance on sample CCTV-like video, optimized inference pipeline for low-latency operation, and prepared deployment variants for Raspberry Pi edge devices and NVIDIA GPU training environments.
