When Was This Job Posted? Check Any Job Link
Most job boards show the date they indexed a listing, not the date the employer posted it, so a six-week-old role can read as 'posted 2 days ago'. Drivetube's free When Was This Job Posted tool takes any job URL and returns the employer's true posting date from the source ATS, plus an apply signal: under 24 hours is Excellent, under 48 Very Strong, under 72 Strong, and older than 72 hours is usually worth skipping. It reads the date from the ATS's own posting record and refuses to report a last-modified date, an application deadline or an ambiguous date as a posting date.

The claim you can check yourself
Every job board tells you when a job was posted. Almost none of them are telling you the truth.
Open any aggregator and you will see "Posted 2 days ago" on roles that have been open for six weeks. That is not a bug — it is the date they first indexed the listing, not the date the employer published it. Reposts reset it. Syndication resets it. The number is about the board, not about the job.
Drivetube publishes a free tool that settles the question for any link you paste:
When Was This Job Posted? — paste a job URL, get the employer's real posting date and whether the role is still worth your time.
No sign-up. No account. Nothing to install.
Why the date decides whether you should apply at all
Recruiters read applications in arrival order and build a shortlist within the first few days. That produces a steep, unforgiving curve:
| Posted | Apply signal | What is actually happening |
|---|---|---|
| Under 24 hours | ✅ Excellent | No shortlist exists yet. You are judged on your own merits, not against finalists. |
| 24 – 48 hours | ✅ Very Strong | Screening usually has not started. You land in the batch read first. |
| 48 – 72 hours | ⚠️ Strong | A shortlist is forming. Still worth it, but the window is closing. |
| Older than 72 hours | ❌ Skip | Most roles have an active shortlist; many are effectively closed while the listing stays up. |
This is why a board that inflates posting dates is not a small inaccuracy. It sends you to apply on day 40 while telling you it is day 2.
The challenge
Take any job you are about to apply to. Paste the link into the tool.
Then compare what it says against the "posted" date on the aggregator where you found it. On a syndicated or reposted listing the two will frequently disagree — and the tool will tell you which source it read the date from, so you can verify the answer rather than trust it.
Where the date comes from, in order:
- Drivetube's own crawl. If the listing is on our board, the date is the one we recorded from the source ATS. Instant, no guessing.
- The ATS's own posting API. Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, SmartRecruiters, BambooHR, ADP, Oracle Recruiting, UKG, Taleo, Zoho Recruit, Dover, PageUp, Gem, Rippling and more — asked directly.
- The employer's structured job data. The same
datePostedfield their ATS publishes to Google for Jobs. - The page's own publish timestamp, restricted to fields that genuinely mean "posted".
- The date printed on the page, for hand-built career pages that run no ATS at all.
What it refuses to do
The tool's value is that its answer can be trusted, so it declines to produce one it cannot stand behind.
- A last-modified date is never reported as a posting date. An employer can edit a six-month-old listing today. That moves "modified"; it does not move "posted". When only a modification date exists, it is shown under its own heading and carries no apply signal.
- First-published beats last-updated. Where a system exposes both, the first-published date wins. A repost bumps the second without restarting the hiring process.
- Ambiguous dates are refused.
09/07/2026is July in one convention and September in another. Rather than guess, the tool reports no date. - Deadlines and copyright years are excluded. A date must be attached to posting language to count. "Apply by 14 September" and a footer's "© 2019" are never read as posting dates.
- A blocked page says so. Some large employers put bot protection in front of their careers site. That is reported as "we were not allowed to look" — never as "this employer publishes no date", because those are different facts and only one of them says anything about the job.
That last list is the real product. Any tool can print a date. The useful question is what it does when it does not have one.
How this connects to the job board
The tool exists because the job board already had to solve this problem.
Drivetube crawls company career pages directly and stores the true posted_date from the source ATS. General listings are deleted three days after their real posting date — not three days after we found them. That is only possible if the posting date is accurate, so accuracy was never optional.
The checker exposes that same machinery for any link, including jobs that are not on our board.
If you find yourself checking every listing one at a time, the board is the shortcut: everything on it is already inside the window.
Frequently asked questions
Paste the job's URL into Drivetube's free When Was This Job Posted tool at drivetube.ai/checkjobposteddate. It reads the posting date the employer's applicant tracking system publishes for that listing — the same field their ATS sends to Google for Jobs — and returns the exact date, how long ago that was, and whether the role is still fresh enough to be worth applying to. No account is required.
Because most large boards display the date they copied or indexed the listing rather than the date the employer published it, and a repost resets that visible date without restarting the hiring process. A role open for six weeks can therefore appear as 'posted 2 days ago'. The checker reads the date from the employer's own listing on their applicant tracking system, which is why it frequently differs — and it names the source it used, so the answer can be verified rather than taken on trust.
It says so instead of estimating. A wrong date would cost you a real application decision, so the tool never converts weaker evidence into a posting date. If the page carries only a last-modified timestamp, that is shown under its own heading and deliberately carries no apply signal, because an employer editing an old listing today does not make the job new. Application deadlines, start dates, copyright years and ambiguous numeric dates are all excluded too.
Yes. Listings already on the board resolve instantly from Drivetube's own crawl, but any other link is resolved by asking the applicant tracking system's own posting API or reading the employer's structured job data. It covers Workday, Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, iCIMS, SmartRecruiters, BambooHR, ADP, UKG, Oracle Recruiting, Taleo, Zoho Recruit, Dover, PageUp, Gem, Rippling, Personio, Teamtailor, Recruitee and most other systems, plus company career pages that run no applicant tracking system at all.

Drivetube Job Board
The Drivetube Job Board is a free, verified job board with no account required — over 120,000 live openings from 14,000+ companies actively hiring, crawled ATS by ATS from real company career pages across 38 ATS platforms in the US, Europe, Canada, UK, India and Australia. Live counts are published at /jobboard/live-stats and as JSON at /api/jobboard/stats. Its defining difference is the posted date: most boards display the date their own system first saw a job, while Drivetube stores only the true posting date from the source ATS and no database timestamp at all, so a crawl date cannot be shown. Jobs are deleted 3 days after their real posting date (sponsorship roles are kept up to 60 days), there are no ghost jobs, ad-sponsored listings or staffing reposts and every listing links to the company's own application page.
How to Choose a Job Board
Ten parameters for judging any job board, each with a 30-second test you can run yourself: whether it shows the employer's true posting date or its own index date, how old listings are allowed to get, whether Apply reaches the employer's ATS or a middleman form, ghost jobs and staffing reposts, paid ranking, filter depth, real source breadth versus inflated listing counts, experience-level accuracy, the account gate, and what the board does with your resume. Drivetube's free job board was built because no existing board passed all ten — it shows the true posted_date with no database timestamp, expires roles 3 days after their real date, always sends you to the employer's own ATS, sells no rankings, and is free with no account required.
Why Drivetube
Drivetube exists because most jobseekers are rejected before a human reads their application, for reasons that were fixable: unparseable resume formatting, free internet templates never tested against a real ATS, one generic resume sent everywhere, stale job postings and roles at the wrong experience level. Built on $5,000+ of primary research with 147 hiring managers across 50+ ATS platforms, Drivetube shows only true posting dates with nothing older than 3 days, matches jobs to your real experience band at 95-98% accuracy and ships 23 interview-validated resume templates that are not available anywhere on the internet. The job board and digital resume profile are free; employers pay on Drivetube Hire, candidates never do.
